The WordDork is not a sesquipedalian!

This is a word that a lot of people like to throw around (well, this and the word "antidisestablishmentarianism", which I really doubt they actually know what it means).

And while I love to use words, I'm not a sesquipedalian. I like to use the right words for the right occasion, whether they be big or small.

I always snicker when people say, "You use such big words!"

Here's a few "big" words for you that people might accuse me of using:

So don't go confusing "big" with "complex" or "advanced". And I really can't stand people who like to call themselves sesquipedalians because it makes them feel smart. (This post really isn't directed at my readers - all 5 of you - just people who I've come across in my lifetime...)

Not worried you thought it was me! The only one who thinks I use big words is John and well...there is a reason why! He also thinks I make us sayings all the time besides making up words. I tell you reading does wonders for your vocab!

You are, too! But that's a compliment.

Yep, I've been accused of using big words just to sound smart...um, no, I just try to use the best word for the situation.
Wolf is in a hilarious stage right now where he is trying out new words. He'll hear a new word someplace (yesterday it was "tolerant" and the day before it was "urgent") and then he'll throw it into the middle of some normal conversation. Occasionally he gets it right, but usually he's just a little off...as in when he said "I have to urgent pee!" I remember doing the same thing around that age though (the one I remember is when I put "tolerable" in place of "terrible"...yeah, didn't work so well, LOL!)

Lisa, I make up sayings all the time! Accidentally of course...nice to know I' not alone!

J, malaprops crack me up. I also love hearing little kids try out new words they hear. Briggs does this and it's hilarious.

I'm proud to say I only had to look up two words on that list... fug and maw. I'm not sure that i've ever seen those words before.

You've seen fug before. It was in one of the opening chapters in either Harry Potter 6 or 7. Harry's waiting for someone and the "fug" is thick in the air. That's where I learned the word because everyone thought it was a typo so it was pointed out to me.
